Annapurna Trek, Nepal

Some photos from our 2013 trip to the Annapurna range in Nepal.

The Annapurna  base camp, or Annapurna sanctuary is one of the best Alpine treks in Nepal.  The Annapurna Himal is a vast massif with several peaks above 7000m. Part of the range forms a natural amphitheatre known as the Annapurna Sanctuary, ringed by such giants as Annapurna 1, Glacier Dome, Gangapurna, Fang and Machhapuchhare.

This is a fairly strenuous alpine trek offering close-up mountain views equal to any in the Himalaya.  The next available trek to Annapurna is in October 2014; see here for more details: http://franceoutdoors.com/fileadmin/user_upload/Newsletter/Newsletter_2013/September_2013/september_2013_newsletter.html

The Queyras is a valley and natural parc in the French Alps, and is a popular hiking, skiing and snowshoeing destination. The valley has 8 small villages, including Saint-Véran which at over 2000m altitude is the highest commune in Europe.

Nepal April 2013

At France Outdoors, we take pride in designing our trips to ensure unforgettable experiences.

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the best in Nepal offering several peaks over 7000 m. The Himalayan culture is present throughout, and the diverse terrain and vistas are perfect for the inner photographer in you. For most though, it is just thrilling to walk amongst giants! This year’s trip to Nepal was fantastic. With a great group of people, we  made our way to the high altitudes of the Annapurna Himal. The photos speak for themselves…

Spring in Breziers

The snow is still clinging to the mountains and the skiing season is far from over, yet the sun is out and it just feels like the start of the summer (or at least Spring). People are out and about in less layers and kids are running around playing ball as if it was mid summer.

Out of the office yesterday I went on a 6 hour loop walk. I left my little house in Breziers taking a trail to the “Saint Sixte”, which is a little chapel on a nearby peak. The panoramic view was stunning. I could suddenly see all around, including the peaks of other mountains. Not a bad place to have lunch, even though I was joined by more than one curious little lizard. I continued down the forest trail to the bottom of the valley. The rays were quite fierce for this time of year, yet in the shadows of the giant mountains there was still a nip in the air. I walked through snow, over ice, tiptoed around the mud and skated over a frozen river (all in a days walk).

It was time to head back, which was literally an uphill battle the whole way… needless to say I embraced the cool shadows of the mountains on the way back.
